A “Cheap” Divorce Can Get Expensive!

I am certain there are a thousand other things you’d rather be spending money on other than your divorce but for those of you who think getting a cheap Internet divorce is the way to go, I have some bad news for you: a cheap divorce can get expensive. First you’d be surprised at the complexity of divorce. Whether it should be this way or not is a subject for debate but the law is not user-friendly. There are so many intricacies and shades of gray that there is no possible way the average person could fully understand the decisions that lie before them. Second is the impact on their lives and their children’s lives both now and in the future. Miscalculate child support and your children could get shortchanged for the next 15 years. Forget to talk about an issue related to spousal support and you could find yourself in the poor house without alimony upon retirement. All of these things which seemed like no big deal at the time are a huge deal when they happen to you.

Now flash forward 15 years and you suddenly realize that cheap divorce was not all it was cracked up to be so what do you do? You get a lawyer, go to court and fight it out, now having 15 years to each entrench in your respective positions turning this into a “Battle Royale” costing you more money than if you had gone to mediation and done your divorce right in the first place.

So while that $399 Internet special may look like a bargain, it’s not. Use a divorce mediator – you (and your children) will be glad you did. Call us and let’s talk. (908) 864-2177.
