Multicultural Issues in Mediation

I’m excited to be speaking this coming Saturday at the annual New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators conference in Somerset, NJ. As the title above states, I’ll be speaking on multicultural issues in mediation and am excited to spend time speaking about a topic that will only continue to become more important in divorce mediation as the ever changing face of America continues to evolve. Couples of varying ethnic and religious backgrounds, diverse age groups and a broad spectrum of socio-economic classes seek the services of a NJ divorce mediator such as myself so it’s important that we as third party neutrals have the understanding to not only help them resolve their differences through the process of divorce mediation but to ensure that our own biases and history that we carry with us is firmly put away when dealing with a client couple that may not look like us, practice the same religion as we do or come from the same economic background. Mediation should be blind to all of these factors and focus squarely on assisting the parties in moving forward with their lives in a peaceful and cost-effective manner and I am pleased to be able to speak on such a topic.

Hope to see you there!
