Will I be divorced by the end of the year?
At this time of year a common question I receive is “if I start divorce mediation now, will I be divorced by the end of the year?” And while certainly, there’s no reason to think you won’t be, there are a few things to keep in mind when answering this question.
First is how willing are you and your spouse to do the work required of you? The reason divorce mediation is so much less expensive than hiring attorneys is that you are going to do some of the work and how quickly you do that will determine how quickly you move through mediation. The other main factor is what county in New Jersey do you live in? As you will still need to file with the courts, some counties are faster than others and so depending on where you live, that will impact when you can get a court date.
No matter what, as a NJ divorce mediator it is my job to work with both of you at whatever pace you feel comfortable with and by working together we can meet your expectations and get you both moving towards you future in as peaceful and efficient a manner as possible.
