Mediation: The Original Collaborative Divorce

There has been a lot of talk about collaborative divorce these days in which you and your attorney sit in a room with your spouse and their attorney and try to work through all of the issues surrounding your divorce. I don’t know about you but the feedback we get here at the offices of Equitable Mediation Services is that people who come to us for mediation want to avoid using attorneys to negotiate their divorce so why would you put both of you and two attorneys in the same room and expect to accomplish anything? Certainly as a divorce mediator in New Jersey I can’t tell you what to do and I’m not here to judge but it just seems to me a bit odd, don’t you think?

By using divorce mediation to work through your divorce, you can avoid he expensive and unpleasant experience of a collaborative divorce which uses attorneys as mouthpieces to argue the merits of your case. Mediation isn’t a courtroom or a battlefield but rather a peaceful place where you and your soon to be ex can sit down like adults and work through the decisions you need to in order to peacefully move on with your lives. Wouldn’t you rather be in control of your future instead of putting it in the hands of a complete stranger?

If you want to design your own future, please give us a call at (908) 864-2177 as we’d be glad to help.
