Divorce Mediation is a Two Way Street

One of the questions I am constantly asked as a NJ divorce mediator is “how long will divorce mediation take?” And while I can give you averages like it takes 4-6 sessions or about 2-3 months, the real truth is how long divorce mediation takes is entirely up to you.

You see one of the many benefits of divorce mediation is that the parties control the pace. As a NJ divorce mediator it is my job to provide you with all of the support you will both need to make informed decisions about your future but it is up to you to provide me all of the background, data, discovery, etc. that I will need in order to help you accomplish that.

I can promise you I will never surprise you with a topic you didn’t know we were going to talk about or ask for a document that I didn’t give you at least 2 weeks to gather or prepare so when you think to yourself “how long will divorce mediation take” I think the more important questions is “how much effort am I willing to put in to make it go as efficiently as possible?”

Then you’ll have your answer.
