Divorce and the Holidays

For many people the holidays can be a difficult time whether you’re contemplating divorce, in the middle of a divorce or have recently survived a divorce so it’s no surprise that you may need a little help in getting through what can be an extremely difficult time and that’s where a divorce coach can really help. As a divorce mediator I see even the most civil of divorces have a devastating emotional toll on the parties involved as their ideas of what their lives were going to be vanish into thin air. Some parties recognize that toll and smartly work with a divorce coach and some choose to suppress those thoughts and fears only to have them come back around – sometimes years later – and bite them in the rear end. Often times it’s the things you don’t see that are the things that get you. Sure you can deal with dividing the bank accounts, paying off credit card debt or executing a parenting plan but how do you deal with the quiet times in-between? How do you manage the emotional upheaval that divorce brings and the loss of a future unfulfilled? Do you just tough it out and go it alone hoping it will all get better someday? And when exactly, is someday? Today? Tomorrow? Next month? Next year?

You need to speak with a divorce coach and come up with a plan.

There’s an old saying that goes “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail” and these words also apply to your life before, during and after divorce. By working with a divorce coach you can make sure you have a plan no matter where you are in the divorce process.

  • If you’re contemplating a divorce, you can work with a divorce coach to examine the reasons why you’re thinking about it, what your options are for moving forward and understand fully what the downstream impact on you and your family might be.
  • If you’re in the middle of a divorce, you can work with a divorce coach to come up with smart strategies to keep your emotions in check and come through your divorce as relatively unscathed as possible.
  • And if you’ve already survived a divorce, you can work with a divorce coach to begin to dream again and come up with a plan to make living your life more worthwhile and meaningful.

But no matter where you find yourself in this spectrum the important thing is this: you need a divorce coach to help you come up with a plan and keep you on track to accomplish your goals, whatever those goals might be. With New Year’s right around the corner and so many of us about to make “New Year’s Resolutions” that we know will be long forgotten by Super Bowl Sunday, having someone to keep you honest and hold you accountable is a good thing. So when you’re ready, please give our divorce coach Cheryl Dillon a call at (908) 864-2177 and start planning for tomorrow instead of living for today.
